Fitness App Reviews and Comparisons

A useful fitness app comparison starts with the job you want done: recording your sessions, getting workout suggestions or following guided training. Compare two tools against that same job, then check the features, billing terms and information you can keep if you leave.

Use the examples below to separate those tasks, then fill in the two-app worksheet with your own requirements.

Start with the task

Publisher disclosure: Fitness Instructor AI publishes this guide and has its own fitness product. The named examples describe official documentation, not hands-on testing or an independent ranking.

Compare the same job

Logging, planning and guided training ask different things of an app.

These examples show why a feature list needs context. They are not exclusive categories: a tool may cover more than one task.

Record a session

What will I log while training?

Hevy's help guide describes starting an empty workout or a saved routine, then logging exercises, sets and weights. That gives you a concrete logging workflow to examine. [1]

Your check: can you enter and correct the details you actually want to record?

Get workout suggestions

What shapes the recommendation?

Fitbod says its workout builder uses your settings and logged training, including goals, equipment and workout length. That describes recommendation inputs, not proof of a particular result. [2]

Your check: can you see and change the inputs that matter to your training?

Follow guided training

What guidance is included?

Nike presents Training Club as workouts and programs with guidance from trainers. That is a different starting point from asking only how to record a set. [3]

Your check: what does the guidance look like, and does it include the feedback you expect?

Look beyond a feature badge

Use a normal training week as your test case.

Choose a task you really expect to repeat. Work through the same questions for both tools and leave an unanswered item marked as a question.

  1. Device and settingCheck your actual phone, language, equipment and training location. If you need offline use or a watch connection, look for an explicit description of that feature.
  2. The everyday actionFollow the steps for starting a session, changing an exercise or correcting a record. Separate what a help page documents from what you have personally tried.
  3. The kind of helpAsk whether you want suggestions, exercise explanations, follow-along guidance or feedback from a person. Write down what the subscription actually includes.
  4. Your historyCheck what you can export, in which format, and whether the records include dates, exercises, sets, repetitions, loads and units. Also check what remains accessible after a paid plan ends.
  5. The full paymentRead the billing period, trial end, renewal amount and cancellation instructions. Compare the same country, currency and purchasing channel.
Make the units match

A monthly equivalent is not a monthly payment.

Here is a hypothetical US-dollar example. These are sample amounts for the arithmetic, not prices for any named app.

Example A · monthly billing

$9 per month

12 payments × $9 = $108 over 12 months.

Example B · annual billing

$69 per year

$69 ÷ 12 = $5.75 per month equivalent, with a $69 annual payment.

For a full year, the difference in this example is $39. That calculation does not tell you whether the two products offer the same service or fit your needs.

Find the billing channel before you need to cancel.

Google Play's help page states that uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription. [4]

Apple's guidance distinguishes subscriptions billed by Apple from those billed by another company. Use the current instructions for the company that bills you. [5]
